During my first medical check at school the doctor told me I was too heavy for my age. This became a recurring theme in my life; I was always too heavy. As I grew older, a little voice inside me kept popping up telling me I was too fat. Most of the time I was able to ignore it, but sometimes it came back louder and was extremely frustrating. I became desperate and tried everything: dieticians, Weight Watchers, counting calories. All those so-called ‘solutions’ that came and went, but still left me overweight.
I often refer to my battle against kilos as the hardest battle of my life. My knees and hips hurt and my blood pressure was too high. When my doctor once again warned me about my weight, I told her about this battle that I couldn’t overcome. She answered: “You shouldn’t look at it that way. Don't make your body the battle, but the JOY of your life, because you only have one.”
She got me thinking and she was right. But I didn’t know how to do that. To work with your body, instead of against it.
Through a friend I contacted my Consultant, Machteld. She listened to my story and scheduled me in. After one week I’d lost 3.9kg and my energy levels were through the roof! I loved the Plan because it never felt like I had to do anything special and I never felt hungry whatsoever. I was motivated to keep going.mutual
Fast forward to today, a year later, and I’ve lost 30kg. My life has made a total U-turn and I love all the compliments I get from friends and colleagues. I’m still continuing on Plan. My time is now, and I’m making sure that my body stays mine. And who knows, maybe I will find a love of my life too!
